Hollywood movies were shown all over the world, and sometimes the advertising posters were painted differently from the American posters. And sometimes, foreign distributors had a problem with the American title of a film, and they would be allowed to change it.
Some of the title changes can be amusing, or even better occasionally.
Sometimes ,like High Society, From Here to Eternity and Anchors Aweigh, the translation was exactly the same.
OCEAN’S ELEVEN. (Gang of 11)

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. (Messenger of Fear)
SOME CAME RUNNING. (Someone Will See)
I’m not too sure about this translation.
PAL JOEY. (The Blonde or the Red Head)
That classic pose of the three stars is so striking.
HIGH SOCIETY
JOHNNY CONCHO. (Johnny Concho, Gunfighter )
Actually, the whole point is that Johnny isnt a gunfighter!
The slash of red from Frank’s shirt is a wonderful contrast in this dramatic scene.
GUYS AND DOLLS. (White Doves and Naughty Gentlemen)
Really not sure about this translation!
SUDDENLY. (Gangsters Lurking)
What was wrong with ‘Suddenly’, I wonder.
FROM HERE TO ETERNITY
ON THE TOWN. (A Day in New York)
Putting New York in the title was maybe seen as a boost.Broadway show titles like On The Town (or Pal Joey) possibly wouldn’t be known at the time in Europe.

The artwork in all of these is beautiful, although I did have a couple of good laughs re: translation, such as “Gangsters Lurking” (!!) and the one you pointed out, “White Doves and Naughty Gentlemen”.
I use Google Translate and am not always sure that I get it right!

Nice pics and as always the foreign one sheets outshine the U.S. ones on many occasion. Really like Johnny Concho, Pal Joey and Suddenly.
Perhaps I need to show the U.S. posters alongside the foreign ones.

I’m always amused by titles translated into other languages. I’ll tell how some Sinatra movies are called here in Brazil:
Anchors Aweigh -> Sailors of Love
On the town -> A Day in New York (like the one you posted)
Take me out to the ball game -> The beautiful dictator (LOL)
Pal Joey -> My two darlings
The Manchurian Candidate -> Under evil’s spell
Ocean’s Eleven -> Eleven men and a secret
Some came running -> God know how much I loved
A Hole in the head – > Widowers also dream
Some make sense, but some others are very funny! Lovely post, friend!
