Columbia didn’t stint when it came to costars  for GRACE MOORE (1898-1947) – Cary Grant,Melvyn Douglas,Franchot Tone. Grace is a singer who only made a half dozen films. Her acting skills were limited. She was an opera singer who made Columbia’s 1934 film,One Night of Love , one of the biggest hits of the year. I ‘ve seen this film lots of times and love it each time.

She had charm, good humour and bags of personality. And a fabulous voice.

On You Tube, you can watch Cary Grant on the piano and Grace Moore doing ‘Minnie the Moocher’ .

Also on You Tube, Grace sings the title song of I’LL TAKE ROMANCE to her costar Melvyn Douglas.

This bio-pic wasn’t much of a tribute to Grace Moore and this picture of Kathryn Grayson isn’t Grace at all.

With Cary Grant. 'Minnie the Moocher.'

With Emma Dunn, Cary Grant. ‘Minnie the Moocher.’

Sadly, Grace Moore was killed in a plane crash while she was in Europe for concerts.

But this is how I will remember Grace – near the beginning of One Night of Love ( for which she was Oscar-nominated),  when she joyously sings ‘Sempre Libre’.
