GLAMOUR OF HOLLYWOOD

A magazine called GLAMOUR OF HOLLYWOOD, founded in 1939 advertised itself as “The Hollywood way to fashion, beauty and charm – and all for 15 cents.
The first issue cover photo was of Ann Sheridan.
The title only lasted until 1941 when it became GLAMOUR and was no longer classified as a fan magazine.
It survives to this day and has over a million readers round the world.
I haven’t been able to obtain one of the 1939-1941 issues, but the following covers are lovely.

  1. Hollywood led the way with glamour at this time, so it is fitting that it should lead the way in fashion. Even to this day top Hollywood stars advertise the latest clothes wear, perfume…so the trend continues.

  2. Of course, it made sense, the link between Hollywood fashion design and fashion magazines. I wonder how much film coverage there were in the film editions of Glamour.
