THE FALCON FROM MALTA

The L.A.Times July 21, 2013 had an very interesting piece on an iconic Hollywood object .
One of the statuettes used in The Maltese Falcon (You know the one – ‘..the stuff that dreams are made of’)   is up for sale at a New York auction curated by TCM on November 25,2013.

image  There will be an auction preview in October at Bonhams Los Angeles, and in New York,Nov.20-25.

The Falcon is from Warners Property Dept and is the only version known to have appeared in the film. It had been displayed before at the Warners museum on the studio lot.

imageAnother memorable item for sale is the polka-dot dress worn by Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce.

The auction catalogue is available 4 weeks before the sale. I hope it can be viewed on line.

But why Warners are not retaining the Falcon so it can be seen as a major part of Hollywood history  is a mystery.

  1. It should at least be part of a Hollywood museum. I never understood why Hollywood doesnt have a museum showcasing its history . So many artefacts etc could have been preserved from the studios.
